Recently an old friend of mine came for a visit. While she was here she regaled Posie and I with tales of her new backyard chickens. Yes, she has chickens that she is raising in her yard. My friend does not live way out in the country. She lives in a suburb of Seattle.
This got Posie thinking....we should get chickens too Mummy. My first responce was that we live in a neighborhood and so probably couldn't have them. No good. Posie reminded me that a family right down the street has chickens.
Could we get chickens? I mean, I like chickens well enough. But are we ready to care for more than our dog? We will always have a dog. I guess I thought a dog would cover the pet thing...turns out it doesn't really. It seems kids want a menagerie of animals not just an old dog.
For now I think the closest we are getting to chickens may be these new chicken pillows. And as for the bunnies...at the Common Ground Fair I took advantage (probably for the last time) of Posie not fully understanding the signs and told her that the bunnies were NOT actually for sale. I have a feeling the Hamster, Gerbil, Guinea Pig chat is coming soon.
ps I am totally jealous of my friend, her fresh eggs, and all the delicious souffles she is probably preparing for her THREE kids with them!
Back yard chickens have turned out to be one of my better ideas.Persephonie can attest to many bad ideas that I have come up with as well but thats another post .
We love knowing that our eggs come come a heathy and humane environment .We are also dog lovers, we currently have three in our family and while chickens will never replace our beloved dogs they are charming and easy pets .I have been so surprised by how much personality these birds have .
So if Sephie and Gray are putting it to a vote I say "GET POSIE SOME CHICKS"
Of couse now I have the start of my Christmas wish list ...needle point chicken pillows . They are beautiful.

Don't you just love the pillows? I will tell Posie that you have cast a vote in favor of getting chickens.
